Vallejo Mobile Home and RV Park

We worked in the Bay Area for eight months in 2017 and found it to be super expensive! We decided to check out a cheaper nearby city called Vallejo but even then, our choices for RV parks near Vallejo, CA were slim pickings.

Everything was either too expensive, too far, or a combination of both. Luckily we came across Vallejo RV park which was cheap enough that we could save a little money while we were out there and our drive wasn’t too bad.

We're going to try and give our honest review but we do want to make it clear since our stay, Vallejo Mobile Home Comunity, and RV Park is under new management. It seems that since our time there, they have made many improvements.

It's also important to point out that we lived in a very tiny travel trailer without a shower and this location would have been better if we lived in a big fully equipped, larger mobile home. And remember, the price was unbeatable.

Overall: 2/5

Location: 1.5/5

The location was about 30-40 minutes from our work closer to the city of San Francisco. While we were happy to be closer than an hour, the surrounding city was not our first pick.

Vallejo is not a safe area and has very limited things we like to do. We had our car broken into while we were in there (not in the park itself) and lost a lot of our stuff (we are minimalists after all!).

While the area of Vallejo is not a desirable one, the park itself seemed to be very safe. They were always very concerned about making it safer which was a good thing. We never felt unsafe in the park even with our lot being close to the front.

Amenities: 1.5/5

In terms of amenities, you aren’t getting much here. The office is closed most of the time from our experience. It didn’t matter what time we went, we could not find them in the office about 75% of the time.

Most of the time they did answer the office phone even after hours but still, it was frustrating not being able to meet them in person. But again, this was different management from today.

They do have bathrooms with three stalls, a laundry room, and showers. The showers and bathrooms are not too impressive. We wouldn’t necessarily describe them as “dirty” but they weren’t clean.

The laundry was nice to have and worked reasonably well. It was $2.50 for washers (not high efficiency) and $1.50 for dryers. There were four of each and the laundry room usually wasn’t too busy.

The big problem with the amenities at this place was the fact that they had very restrictive hours. The ownership at the time was concerned about the homeless population and because of that, they shut the doors to the laundry and restrooms very early.

Everything was open every day from 8 am - 5 pm. That's it! For us, we left for work at 7 am and returned at about 5 pm so during the week we had zero access to the bathrooms and laundry facilities.

We understand being concerned about safety but this seemed like overkill to us. Instead of making the park safer, this just made the park less desirable and not as useful to us. It did make everything cleaner probably though because no one could use it!

Price: 3/5

Because of the location, the price was pretty reasonable. Their daily rate is $50, weekly is $300 and monthly is $800. Again, because of the proximity to San Francisco, this price is pretty good.

We were looking at having to pay nearly double that at other RV parks nearby. The negative of the monthly spots at this place is they require a credit check which we have not run into at any other park.

When you factor in the location of the park and the lack of amenities though, it has to be said this park is might not the best value if you are wanting more bang for your buck.

Spaces: 2/5

The spaces are concrete (which seems pretty common in Bay Area RV parks) and generally seemed pretty level to us. We were in the very center of the park in a pull-thru spot which gave us a little bit more space and we felt more secure. They have many spots in the park but most are taken up by long term residents and mobile homes.

Their spaces are pretty close together but you do have access to at least one parking space. If you have a big rig, you are going to have some difficulty getting in and out of the park unless you’re experienced.

People did it successfully but it looked pretty tight to us so unless you feel confident in your driving abilities with something over about 25-30’, you might want to consider somewhere with a bit more space.

All of the spaces have full hookups including water, sewer and electric. The electric box is up on a pole and it can be hard to get a plug into it. We used had to use a 20amp adapter for our time there.

Overall: 2/5

This was our home for eight months because the price was right for us. The RV space had enough room for us but there isn't much else to draw people here. The area around the park is not safe, there isn’t much to do nearby, and the amenities at this park are pretty much non-existent.

If you need a space to stopover for the night and there is nothing available closer to the city or the coast, this is an easy place to stop but it's not one we would suggest unless your budget is the main concern. We also want to say that we loved our neighbors here and we're thankful for them every day.
