Travel to the Trees: Our Washington Getaway

We finally did it…something we’ve been talking about doing for what seems like forever. We went on a mega trip to Washington with friends and we’re calling it MLMR Travel to the Trees.

The trip was originally scheduled for 2020 but as you can probably guess it got put on hold. Now flash forward to 2021 and it finally happened.

After quite the build-up was it everything and more that we hoped for? Oh yeah, it was awesome...the perfect mix of relaxation and getting lost in nature.

We got to enjoy some city life then escape into the Washington wilderness. Turns out all you need for a stress-free getaway is to travel to the trees.

Seattle

Our Washington mega trip began...and ended in Seattle. Why? Transportation...and because we love Seattle.

Out of the entire group, the Schaub household were the only ones coming from the Pacific Northwest. The rest of the crew had to fly in from various states around the country.

Since we love Seattle it made the perfect destination to get everyone together but also to start the trip off right. We explored Pike's Market, enjoyed views of the Seattle skyline, and did a little bar hopping.

Treehouse Point

The whole vacation only came about because of Treehouse Point so without this place...there is no Washington Mega Trip. We are obsessed with this Washington treehouse hotel and visit every year.

Since we love it so much we wanted to share it with our friends and decided to rent out the entire place just for us. It was perfect since each couple got their own treehouse and a chance to experience life in the trees.

Most of the time was spent in the treehouses but we all got together for hikes and bonfires. As usual, one of the best parts was breakfast since it's all homemade with extra TLC.

Rainier National Park

Even though the mountain was covered with snow we headed over to Mt. Rainier to find some hikes. Instead of pushing through a snow-covered trail we bopped around finding different waterfalls.

It was fun wandering through snow and exploring. We began near the sunrise visitor center and then stopped by random trails while driving back down the mountain.

Olympic National Park

With the perfect mix of forest and beaches, Olympic National Park did not disappoint. We stayed in a rental house on the East side of the park and found trails that involved the least amount of driving.

One word of caution...the entire park is huge and getting around to all the best spots means a lot of time spent in the car. For our next time in Olympic NP we agreed having more days is best so a 3-hour car ride doesn't seem as crazy.

Best Trip Ever

We typically vacation just the two of us wandering around. Having the chance to travel with a group of amazing people was a nice change of pace.

For one, it got us to try hikes we otherwise would have passed over as not everyone on the trip was avid hikers. We also tried a lot of food, including our first time eating oysters in Seattle, because it turns out our friends are big foodies.

So now that the trip is over we guess there's only one thing to do...get started on planning the next one!
