The Travel Cats “The Boys”

The Travel Cats

We love our two travel cats and have officially deemed them as "the boys". We see them as family and take them with us on as many adventures as possible.

They are both black and white brothers from the same litter. Their names are Pedro and Paxton and they are perfect in every single way.

We are so proud of how well they travel, especially for cats. It might be biased but we think our cats are travel pros.

The Boys Laying on US

Travel Life

At this point, our cats have traveled over 100,000 miles in the car. That's a lot of mileage for two little kitties.

During our road trips, they only meowed for the first major road trip but now are used to settling down for the long haul. They have driven through over 20 states by sleeping for most of it.

We set up a crate in the back seat with toys, pillows, blankets, and a bed. When they're not sleeping they look out the window or try having a conversation with us (we're still working on learning cat).

Paxton Covering His Face

Lodging for a Bunch of Nomads

The travel cats LOVE hotels and have stayed in over 50. The moment they get through the door they are off exploring, jumping on everything, and making themselves at home.

During our travels, we have lived in apartments and AirBnBs, both of which the cats love. As long as they have a window they are good to go.

They even spent a few years living with us in a tiny travel trailer and it was perfect for the boys. They even had their own cat loft and loved all the screened-in windows.

Currently, we all permanently live in Portland, Oregon but they still travel with us for job assignments. This means we spend about six months total in our place and spend the rest of the year bopping around.

When we go on vacations without the cats, their favorite cat sitter comes over to give them some love. They love sunbathing in our downtown studio apartment with floor-to-ceiling windows.

So far the travel cats have lived in over 20 different cities and in seven states which is more than most people! Pretty impressive.

Meet the Travel Cats

The Boys SleepingPhil got the kitties from an animal shelter back in 2008 and now they are officially into "old age". They are pretty small, weighing about 9-10 pounds, and love exercising by running around chasing toys or with a laser pointer.

Both are avid hunters (for indoor cats) and do a great job at keeping our at-home bug population at bay. They seem to really enjoy being together but also play fight daily.

They are great cats and very tolerant of their owners picking such a nomadic lifestyle. Even as they get older they still love running around but are also very cuddly.

Pedro

Pedro acts how you would think a typical cat acts. He's kind of standoffish unless he likes you.

Also being a true "scaredy-cat" he is scared of any loud sounds including our teapot which we use daily.

Pedro has a white nose and is black and white. He likes to chase lasers (even if it's on an iPad) and hides as much as possible.

Fun fact

Pedro loves sleeping on pillows. If there's a pillow he will be on it. Even if your head is on it he will adjust accordingly but make sure he has his pillow space as well.

Paxton

Pax is the friendly one of the group. He loves anyone instantly and will demand attention as soon as you walk into a room. He is a huge cuddle bug and a big licker.

He is also the most vocal one and will meow and purr louder than you ever thought possible.

Paxton is also black and white but with a black nose and a white spot on his back. He likes to lay in the sun (even if it's in a hot trailer), or on top of our stomachs.

Fun Fact

Paxton likes to drink his water by dipping in his paw and then licking the water off. There's no way this is efficient but it's what he wants to do so there is no stopping him!Paxton Sleeping

We are so proud of the boys. They didn't sign up for the nomad life but they have made such great travel cats.

Cats can be travelers too
