Spending the Day in Tampa

Tampa, Florida

How to spend the perfect day in Tampa, Florida based on our adventures.

We planned our trip to Tampa, Florida after Kelsey's brother moved there. We found a cool fun run 5k and since they had a Tampa location, decided it was a great opportunity to fly out and visit.

Since we still have family there, we get to visit before heading off to Caribbean vacations. We always stay for a few days so we can have some time in the sun.

Where to Eat

Datz

Datz restaurant in Tampa, FloridaDatz does NOT disappoint in the brunch department. They have the typical, tasty brunch drinks (aka coffee, bloody mary's and mimosas) as well as a great food selection. They are not a vegan restaurant but have a lot of vegetarian options to choose from that can easily be veganized.

On weekdays they have breakfast in the morning then a separate lunch/dinner menu. For the weekend they have a Brunch menu. On Sunday they serve all-day brunch so even late risers can partake.

We ordered a sandwich called Californication which was a breaded and fried cauliflower "steak" topped with veggies. Paired with a Bloody Mary but we had to ask to sub more celery for the bacon because they serve bacon with theirs.

They typically have a long wait for brunch but have a pretty cool call ahead seating program. You can text to enter the waitlist from home so you aren't waiting too long at the restaurant. There are also other commands you can use to check your status or even add on more time if getting there is taking longer than you expected.

The Hyppo

The Hyppo in Tampa, FloridaThe Hyppo serves gourmet ice pops and is everything you could ever want from a popsicle. There are a few locations throughout Florida and two are in Tampa.

All of the pops are made by hand with very few and fresh ingredients. The fruit is the base and then some sugar, spice, and herbs are added as well. Most are vegan but a few do have dairy which is labeled very clearly.

There are so many flavors to choose from but you aren't able to sample any before purchase as they are each individualized packaged. They all taste really good though so you really can't go wrong. They have some staple flavors like cherry but also more creative options like lavender and cayenne pepper.

What to Do

Ybor City

Ybor City is a little historic neighborhood in Tampa. We don't know too much about the history of it besides the fact that it has something to do with cigars. Regardless of the history, this place is adorable. There are cute streetcars, little shops, and brick streets.

Most of the places have big glass windows where you can watch a pizza being made or a cigar being rolled. There are little stores for shopping and tons of restaurants for eating. On weekends you can find a street fair there.

There are street chickens everywhere they seem to be very used to people. It's a little quirky thing that adds to the uniqueness of the area.

Riverwalk

The river walk is a 2.4-mile-long path right along the water. It is great for walking, jogging, biking or even unicycling. It has a great view along the entire pathway.

There are plazas on the ends where events are often taking place. There are several attractions close to the path and you can find something for everyone.

Dallas Bull

Joey and Brittny dancing at Dallas BullIf you are looking for a good ole country bar in Tampa then Dallas Bull is for you. They often have events and concerts but on their "off" days there is country music blaring.

This place is Huge having both downstairs and upstairs and several bars. There is a big central dance floor on the first floor but another smaller version upstairs. Upstairs is also pretty cool because it's set up like a loft with the center open to look down at the bottom dance floor.

There is a mix of line dancing and two-stepping but also regular dancing. If dancing is not your thing there are pool tables and couches too.
