Embracing the Simple Life with a Mountain House Getaway
Sometimes we get caught up in the grind of working and traveling so when we had the opportunity to rent a mountain house from a friend, we knew it was the slow down we needed. It was time to embrace the simple life with a little mountain house getaway.
We love being in the mountains with nature which is why we are always looking for some new outdoor adventures to try. The idea of being in the mountains as soon as you wake up...no hike required was a dream come true.

The travel cats came with us of course and gave their paw of approval as well. They had plenty of napping spots complete with a ray of sunshine.
It turns out it was even more than we could have imagined. We fell in love with the mountain house and want to try to give even a small glimpse into the experience we were able to have.

Welcome to the Mountain House
The mountain house is located...in the mountains. Okay, but seriously the house is situated between mountains and gives the most amazing view of the Coachella Valley in California. You can see the city lights from Palm Springs but also the scattered lights of Indio.
The house has an open concept but the best parts of the house are the decks and floor-to-ceiling windows. You actually feel immersed in your surroundings.
While relaxing by the electric fireplace you have unobstructed mountain views from two walls that are only windows. Then if you want to be even more with nature you can step onto the wrap-around deck from the living room or the deck from the bedroom.
It was at was a nature lovers paradise. The perfect relaxing mountain house getaway.
The Simple Life
We like to think of ourselves as travel and leisure experts. Even though we love a good adventure, there is always time set aside for some relaxing.
The mountain house not only removed us from the hustle and bustle of a city but also gave us the perfect environment to unwind. We were able to get back to the simple life of spending our time stress-free, doing things we love.
Relaxing
You can't really claim to be living a simple life without a little bit of relaxation. During our mountain house getaway, we got in enough relaxation to last us a lifetime...just kidding cause there is no such thing as too much relaxing.
In the mornings we took time making zero waste coffee while watching sports and getting plenty of kitty cuddles. We still woke up early because we are crazy and it gave us even more time to unwind.

Of course, you can drink coffee and watch sports almost anywhere but we can't stress how amplified the experience is when you have beautiful mountain views the entire time. You're just sitting there, taking in a sunset over the mountains EVERY SINGLE MORNING.
Hiking
For us, part of living a life of simplicity means reconnecting with nature. We also try to stay healthy when traveling and hiking is the perfect solution for both.

Hiking around the mountain house is an adventurer's dream. There is the property around the house which gives a great opportunity for exploring. If you are looking for more structured hikes those are down the street by the transfer station.
You can check out a longer 30-mile hike on the Cactus Spring Trail or the shorter Horsethief Creek Trail. The best part is you can go as far as you'd like then turn around because there are great views the entire time.
Blogging
Part of the reason why we love having our site is that blogging doesn't seem like work, it's more of an outlet for our creativity. We're still not blogging full time but we are doing as much as time allows.

Since the mountain house is so far removed from everywhere, staying in and working on the blog became our daily norm. Again, we can blog almost anywhere but there's nothing like looking up from our computer to views of clouds coming in over the mountain.
If you are a writer or any kind of creative entrepreneur we highly recommend trying a mountain getaway of your own. Being in the mountains just makes everything better.
Mom and Pop Store
Located down the street are a quaint little restaurant and one-stop-shop for drifters and mountain people. It's the perfect mom and pop store located in the middle of nowhere.
They have great coffee and adult drinks as well. The menu is small but you can tell everything is made with love (and high-quality ingredients)!
The service is on mountain time so be prepared to sit back and enjoy the small moments. Everyone is so friendly it makes you feel like a welcomed regular.
The Perfect Getaway
When talking about our mountain house getaway it's almost like "where do we start". Pictures and videos don't even do the views justice. The house offers a serenity that is unlike anywhere else.
It's hard to put into words the feeling of sitting on the deck seeing stars (and the cloudy Milky Way) without light pollution while drinking a beer and listening to music. There is something amazing about being able to lay in bed while seeing clouds roll over the mountains.
We were often asked about the 25-minute drive up the mountains but it was more than worth it for the final destination.
There was also this relieving feeling of leaving the chaos and drama of Palm Springs into calmness. Plus the city offers so much that everything you could need really is within an easy drive.
You might not have the chance to rent this exact mountain house but if you do have the chance to explore, find your own mountain house. It doesn't matter what mountains are around it, if you find the right place you will feel the same relaxation.
We loved everything about our short time here. Hopefully, we will be able to make it back someday or find our own mountain house.
