Staying at La Quinta during Cat-Friendly Road Trips
Since we travel all over America with our fur babies, we are always on the hunt for cat-friendly hotels. After several cross-country trips, La Quinta by Wyndham became a fan favorite in the Schaub household.

Finding hotels that are perfect for cats can be tricky. That's why we love having a go-to option when planning our road trips.
Not only do we love La Quintas but our cats love them too making it the perfect stop after hours of driving. We have even stayed for months at a time while working and our cats felt right at home.

Why La Quinta is Cat Owner Approved
We were the ones who decided on making La Quinta our cat-friendly road trip hotel. This makes sense because we do all the planning and our cats just come along for the ride.
For us, the main three reasons La Quinta works for us is
- Locations
- Price
- Room Set-Up
Locations
We travel all over for our job and because we enjoy seeing new places. This leads to a lot of road trips around America.
Since we are always in different locations, we needed a go-to hotel that was basically everywhere. This is where La Quinta does really well because they are all across the USA.
This makes planning road trips with our cats so much easier because we map our route then find the La Quintas along the way.
Price
With all the traveling the price of hotel stays can add up. La Quinta is one of the more affordable hotels we've found that allow cats.
When looking for hotels in an area, La Quinta is almost always one of the cheaper options but with more amenities than many other cheap hotels. They also regularly run deals so you can save even more on the otherwise great price.
To save even more money we are reward members with Wyndham, which owns La Quinta. This way we can use points to cover some of our stays making for an even cheaper road trip.
We have also used the cash + points option when booking La Quinta. This lets you pay part of your room fee with Wyndham points and the rest in cash which can take a little bit off your room rate for even more value.
Room Set-Up
The rooms at La Quinta are a lifesaver when it comes to traveling with cats. There is plenty of room for all four of us (Phil, Kelsey, and the Boys).
We travel with two litter boxes that are a decent size but we have always been able to find space in our La Quinta rooms. Not only can we find space but there is enough room that the litter boxes are far away from the bed.
There is one more thing about La Quinta rooms that make them perfect for traveling with cats and that's the bed. Not the top of the bed (which is always pretty good) but the bottom.
At La Quinta hotels the bed frame goes all the way to the floor meaning that cats can't go under or behind the bed. This is a huge help because Pedro likes to hide in the morning when he knows we are likely leaving.
We have saved so much time on our road trips by not having to crawl under a bed getting our "scaredy-cat" to come out.
Why La Quinta is Cat Approved
As cat parents, we had to consider hotels that worked for us but also worked for our fur babies. We want the boys to like the hotel as much as we do and so far it seems they do.
Our cats love La Quintas because of the
- Space
- Furniture
- Window Sill
Space
La Quinta does a great job of organizing their rooms so there is more space. Our cats travel in a decent size crate but are more than happy to be out running around.
The boys can run around, play with their toys, and getting into a few play fights. It also helps to have enough space that their food and water is far away from their litter boxes.
Furniture
Even in the basic room, La Quintas seem to always have a bed, chair, and desk. Having this much furniture has been a big help for our cats.
The desk allows us to put less on the floor so our cats have more running around space. The chair gives the boys their own spot to nap with a blanket or two to make it comfier for them.
Having various surfaces for them to explore at different heights is always nice for cats and La Quinta really comes through with lots of nice furniture to explore.
Window Sill
Having a window sill in a hotel room may seem like a given but trust us, it's not. We have stayed at a lot of hotels in our years of traveling and a good window sill can sometimes be hard to find.
So far, every window sill at La Quinta has been big enough for our cats to lounge on while watching outside. It also gives them the perfect sunbathing location where we can put their cat bed so that they are comfy, happy kitties.
One Last Thing...
Pet Fee
La Quinta first came into our radar because they didn't charge more for pets. This made staying there perfect since it was the same price even with our travel cats tagging along.
Since La Quinta was bought out by Wyndham, some hotels are now charging a small pet fee. We wanted to give a heads up about this in case you didn't know.
By being rewards members we have had good luck with the hotels waving the fee. The good news is even with the pet fee (usually $10-20 per animal), La Quinta is still around the same price or cheaper than surrounding hotels.
If you are a cat owner, trust us, La Quinta is the way to go. It has been a perfect hotel for cat-friendly road trips all over America.
By having this go-to hotel that's pet friendly we can easily plan our road trips. Our cats are happy with the selection and we have less stress. It's a win-win.
