Minimalist Items for Tiny House Living

Minimalist Items for Tiny House Living

Living in a teardrop travel trailer means more freedom for adventures but less space for stuff. Since our mobile tiny home is only 94sqft we needed to find perfect items for tiny house living that helped us get more from less.

It's not that every item we own is small but instead, serves an important role with trailer living. Each product helps with our minimalist and nomad lifestyle.

The best minimalist items for tiny home livingWe understand that it might seem counterintuitive to buy products when you're trying to save space while living small. But if you live in a trailer you quickly learn some items are worth it.

It's not like we went out and bought everything at once and filled our already limited living area. We like to consider it a glow-up where we started focusing on what the item can do for us.

Now we have our essentials that seriously amplified our living experience. If you live in a tiny home or just any type of small space, some of these items might help you too.

· We own each one of the below options. We are writing about them because we love them and want to share our finds with our readers. As always, all thoughts and opinions are our own. For more information on what working with us means, check out our disclaimers ·

Storage

Packing Cubes

If there is one item every tiny home dweller needs, it's packing cubes. Trust us, packing cubes are life-changing.

Both of us have minimalist wardrobes so it's not like we have an overflowing closet but anything in our 100 item wardrobe takes up space. That's why most of our clothes are in packing cubes.

Not only do we use packing cubes but we took it a step further and bought compression packing cubes. That's right, we found packing cubes that shrink down our clothes even more!

We also have a packing cube for our toiletries since living in a mobile tiny home means using RV park bathrooms. The Patagonia Black Hole Cube is water-resistant and fits all of Kelsey's makeup and million step skincare routine (it's only five steps but most days it feels like a million).

Slim Hangers

Must haves for tiny livingEven though we love our packing cubes, it doesn't work for our entire closet. Since we work as traveling physical therapists we have business casual clothes that need to be hung up.

That's where slim hangers come in with the assist. It might not seem like it but having slim hangers can save you so much room.

If you are still using rounded hangers, it's time to make the switch. We like these black velvet hangers because they look nice and the velvet helps to keep the clothes securely in place.

Command Hooks

Tiny House Must Haves for MinimalistsIt's no secret the Command brand can help in any household. We use command strips for decorations but the Command Hooks help with storage.

We have Command Hooks by our sink for a hanging basket, hooks by the door for our shoes, and even more hooks to hang our bookbags. You get the idea, we use a lot of Command Hooks.

The variety of the Command Hooks available is crazy. You can buy the cheapest little plastic ones or opt for slightly more expensive (by only a few dollars) decorative options.

There are small hooks or large hooks that can hold several pounds of weight. Command even sells an entire key rail with 4 little hooks on it. Our favorite tiny house accessories

Cord Organizer

If you have a stationary tiny home that never leaves its location, this one might not be for you, but for our mobile tiny home dwellers, listen up. You need a cord organizer.

A cord organizer is this little plastic contraption that easily wraps around cords, secures them, and then has a little handle for easy carrying. There are also small cloth versions great for smaller electrical cords.

By the way, when we say cords we're talking CORDS. Not a little phone charger but things like hoses and 9-prong electric cable.

* If you are looking for small cord organizers, we use these magnetic cord wraps for our electronics *

We went years without this and once we got one we felt like a bunch of suckers. It took our organization level to a whole other level.

If you live in a mobile tiny home, an RV and trailer, etc please look into getting a cord organizer...or two. You won't regret it.

Living Space

Mini Heater/Fan

Our Tiny House Must HavesThe nice thing about living in a tiny home is that you have a smaller area to heat up or cool down. Having a small heater or fan is perfect because it takes up little space but still helps with the temperature inside your tiny home.

For our current heater, we use this small one from amazon and it's been perfect for winter. If you want something that has a bit more power but still compact, this one is another great option that even has an automatic shut off if it tips over.

For our fan we use a mini Vornado and for the most part, it gets the job done. We did spend one summer in Arizona and even though the fan helped it wasn't strong enough for the summer heat so we had to buy a tower fan.

Travel Blanket

Blankets are one of those things that seem small but actually take up a lot of space. initially, we only owned one blanket for our bed and one throw blanket but during one cold, Ohio winter this wasn't enough.

We didn't want to buy another throw blanket because most of the time it would just be taking up space. That's when we found our travel blanket.

We initially bought it for traveling but it's such a good blanket it works for our bed too. The best part is that the blanket folds nicely into a small bag so when it's not in use, it's not taking up all this space.

Kitchen

InstaPot

Every tiny house dweller we've met swears by owning an InstaPot and we understand why. This one little kitchen item has about seven uses while taking up only a corner of the counter.

In our travel trailer, we only have an induction stovetop and two pans. Since Kelsey tries making healthy meals we needed another option.

That's where the InstaPot came in and saved the day. The quality of our meals improved drastically thanks to this one item.

The other nice thing about an InstaPot is that you can set it, go to work and come back to a made dinner. So not only does it save you space in your home but it saves you time.

Collapsible Measuring Cups

Tiny Home ProductsWhen we first moved into our trailer Kelsey found the cutest mason jar measuring cups and loved them so much. Then we kept moving around as we always do and we realized for our lifestyle it just wasn't a great fit.

Not only did it take up room on our counter but they kept getting cracks and chips during our road trips. We needed to find a new option.

That's when Phil found collapsible measuring cups on the internet. Of course, they aren't as cute as the mason jar ones but that's okay because they take up little to no space in our drawers and are way less fragile.

3-in-1 Utensils

Since we do a lot of camping we bought 3-in-1 titanium utensils that are durable and lightweight. Its a spoon on one side and a fork/knife on the other.

We like to consider living in our travel trailer as "glamping" and figured if it works for camping, it can work for trailer living. Our 3-in-1 utensils store nicely and get the job done.

Some people don't like this level of "roughing it" but we don't even notice a difference. In full transparency, we still own an actual knife and a larger spoon for cooking.
