How to Spend 2 Days in Bangkok

Bangkok, Thailand Travel Guide

Spending two days in Bangkok based on our adventures.

Phil's family planned a family vacation to Thailand after all of the kids had graduated. It was a great trip packed full of adventures.

The first stop along our Thailand vacation was Bangkok. It was a great way to start the trip and gave us the perfect city life getaway.

Where to Stay

Siam@Siam

Siam@Siam hotel in Bangkok, ThailandWe stayed at Siam@Siam Design Hotel located in happening, downtown Bangkok. The hotel has a cute, modern setup equipped with spacious rooms. The large windows give you a great view of the city.

The best parts for us were the incredibly cool infinity pool, rooftop bar, and fitness center. Our rooms included a breakfast buffet every morning which was perfect for our busy days exploring.

Where to Eat

Street Food

Eating popsicles from a street vendor in BangkokBefore we visited Bangkok we had heard a lot of their street food and how good it is. It seems to be well-regulated, and at a great price. Most importantly,  all of the street food is very delicious.

Meat options seem to be the most popular but there were vegetarian-friendly options as well. Just walk around and go to the closest place that smells amazing and you won't go wrong.

Siam Discovery Food Court

There is a "Food Court" in the Siam Discovery "mall". It is very large and has a street food vibe. This is a great option for big groups or if you want to try several smaller bites at once.

Be prepared for lines because it seems to be popular during lunch breaks due to workers and students. Also, pay close attention to hours of operation because it's not open daily or all day. Most of the options seem to be more of a lunch spot.

What to Do

Siam Discovery

Siam Discovery Mall in Bangkok, ThailandSiam Discovery is also referred to as a "mall" and as "the exploratorium". It's a five-story mall but with so much to offer. The decorations are so unique and most floors are set up like giant stores instead of several tiny stores in a row.

If you are looking to go shopping, get some fun Instagram worthy pics or just explore, this is a great free option. The layout is very organized so you easily find what you are looking for.

Chatuchak Weekend Market

If you are looking for a huge market then this is probably your best choice. It is probably one of the bigger markets we have ever been to and is like a flea market on steroids.

There are tons of goods to buy including clothes, snacks, and other random items to choose from. We did notice some of the stores sell similar goods so if you find something you want to buy, make sure to look around for the best price.

Grand Palace and Temple of Emerald Buddha

Grand Palace in Bangkok, ThailandProbably one of the more popular tourist attractions is the Grand Palace where the Temple of the Emerald Buddha is also located. It costs about 15 USD but you will have to pay in baht if you buy outside the grounds.

The biggest thing to remember is the dress code of no shoulders showing and no tights. Luckily, if you forget there is a gift shop before entering so you can be dress code compliant.

The Temple of Emerald Buddha or Wat Phra Kaew is located within the Grand Palace and is stunning. Visiting this temple is part of your ticket to the Grand Palace and is a great stop for your tour.

Visit Wats

Wats or "temples" are stunning in Bangkok. However, there is a lot to choose from so it may be more worth your time to see the more famous ones all near the Grand Palace.

Whenever visiting Wats please remember to be respectful and dress appropriately. Most have hours of operations so make sure to check before your visit. Most appear to be open around 9-4 but it can vary.

Wat Pho (Temple of the Reclining Buddha)

Wat Pho, Temple of the Reclining BuddhaThis is one of the coolest Wats in our opinion not only because of how beautiful it is but the giant reclining Buddha statue. The detail is so intricate that there are even fingerprints on the toes. Admission is 100 baht and there is a Thai massage school on the grounds that offers massages for a decent price. This Wat is located right across the street from the Grand Palace.

Wat Arun (Temple of Dawn)

Wat Arun, Temple of DawnThis Wat has a more simple look (as compared to the others) but of course, is still stunning. Located just a quick boat ride away from Wat Pho it is easy to add to your Wat tour and admission is only 30 baht. Be prepared to climb stairs because the view is worth climbing to the top.
