How to Spend a Quick Day in Albuquerque

Albuquerque Travel Guide

Spending a quick, but perfect day in Albuquerque, New Mexico based on our adventures.

We decided to check out Albuquerque, New Mexico when we were living only an hour away in Santa Fe. Even though it was a hot summer that didn't stop us from having a great time.

In addition to a relaxing weekend, we made to get out and explore. There was so much to do and of course, the food was amazing.

Where to Stay

Mauger Bed and Breakfast

First off the breakfast was amazing. There is outdoor seating on the front patio and it made for a perfect start to the morning.

There were also snacks and teas provided throughout the evening so it wasn't like we got breakfast and nothing else. The location allows you to walk downtown about one mile to do some exploring.

The rooms are all spacious and have their own unique designs. Each room also has TVs and FREE wireless internet which is always a plus. We stayed in the Exotic Suite which was HUGE. We had an incredible shower and a separate living room.

Where to Eat

Garduno's Mexico Restaurant

If you want authentic Mexican food then this is your place. The food and drinks were UNREAL.

A tortilla burger seems to be a staple of New Mexico and they may have the best one. Add in a margarita sampler and you are good to go.

Make sure to check out some of the margaritas that have a little spice to them. You can either add tequila-soaked jalapeños or a chili powder rim.

The outdoor seating is nice since it's nicely shaded because Albuquerque can get very hot. We also had a great server who made the experience even better.

What to Do

ABQ BioPark Botanic Garden

BioPark Botanic Garden ArchThis place is BEAUTIFUL. There is a lot of variety and each section is unique. Tickets are about $15 but only $10 for NM residents. There is also the aquarium next door so if you purchase a ticket for both you get a deal.

Lake at BioPark Botanic GardenOur favorites were the butterfly pavilion and the Japanese garden but the whole thing was amazing.

There are activities for kids but adults can participate too. Some actives were even educational but we skipped those portions.

Old Town

Selfie in AlbuquerqueWhen we told people we were going to Albuquerque they all said we MUST go to Old Town. So of course we went and checked it out.

We will admit it was pretty cool. It seemed like a small Santa Fe in the middle of Albuquerque.

If you like shopping then Old Town is even better. There were so many stores with a good variety including antiques, clothes, and souvenirs.

Most places don't open until 10am on Saturday and 11am on Sunday. We like to go everywhere early and ended up getting here before anything was open.

We hope our travel guide for Albuquerque, New Mexico will give you inspiration and help you plan your next trip. There is so much this city in the desert has to offer. Happy Adventuring!
